Rock City!

I would like to live in Detroit because I have always heard that it is called "rock city" and that´s awesome because I love music, especially rock music. I imagine that in that place there are concerts all the weeks and things like that. In the webpage I looked for musicians and I found a lot of people trying to make bands and rock groups. I really would like to live in a place like that because for me the best way to show my feelings is through the music. That´s why I try to play the guitar and now I have a new harmonica and I try to rock! haha. Anyway, I would like to live there because of its culture and art.

On the other hand, I think that I wouldn´t like to live in New York City because I believe that there is all about business and money. I imagine that people who live there is always running. Also I looked for musicians and what I found was a lot of people trying to make money. The thing is that I would like to have a quiet life, and in this city I dont think I could make it.

Motivation!

I read an article very interesting. It talked about a difficult topic in our development as teachers. Motivating someone else to study is something hard in these times, because there are a lot of things that the children could find more fun and easier to do. And the author knows it, thats why I chose this article, because its a daily life problem that we should be worry about.

The author talked about the importance of self-esteem and how this could affect the children`s motivation. I completely agree with him because I think that to have self-confident is a crucial factor in our learning. If we trust in our skills and we are not scared to fail, it is easier to confront whatever we want.

In Chile, teenagers have not motivation at all. I know it because in my ELAB I see boys and girls who dont want to learn anything. They don´t feel comfortable in a English class because they don´t know what to say. Sometimes I think that they are not interested in to learn anything. And it is a shame because that is the reflect of our society.

See you.

School kills creativity.

It was really hard to understand Ken Robinson and his jokes because he talked really fast, but at the same time, it was really interesting to hear what he said. After all the things he said I kept thinking about how people judge our dreams when we are kids. Like he said, the society thinks, if you like to dance you will become in a dancer, and if you like the art you will become in an artist and thats not true. First of all, there is nothing wrong if you want to be a guitar player or a photographer. When I was a child I wanted to be a photographer but constantly the poeple told me that I was going to die in my poorness and finally I forgot it. That is happening these days in our school, they are not supporting the children´s dreams because the idea of to be succesful is to have a degree.

Also he talked about a girl who was drawing God, and her teacher told her that nobody has seen God. And she said, "well, now they are going to do it". I dont know which was the reaction of the teacher but I know that in some cases the children are repressed when they have new ideas.

The man talked about many other things but the creativity in the school is a subject we should be interested in.

Boy still missing.

I know we had to read about a current event, but I found this article and I have to talk about it. 30 years ago Etan was the first boy on a milk carton because he was missing. He wanted to take the bus alone, like all of his classmates. He was 6 and he never came back home.
After 30 years nobody has known nothing about Etan.

I was so sad when I read the article, because I was looking for some crimes articles, or something fun to read. And I found this and I started thinking about my little niece and the kids I see in the ELAB and it must be terrible if some of them get lost.

I know that we, like teachers, can make a difference and that´s make me feel so important because we can help the children to care for themselves and we can give advice to the parents.

The Etan´s case is still a cold case, I would like that nobody else has to suffer something so horrible.

Common Mistakes!

I´ve been seeing some classmates´s blogs and I could realized that we have all the same kind of mistakes in our writting. First of all I think we are accustomed to write fast in our computer, and we have spelling mistakes. Another thing I could read is that we try to write some spanish things in english and they dont have the same meaning. Sometimes we cant see the differences between these two languages and the consequence is that we cant say or write what we wanted.
Also its a common mistake the used of the capital letters, sometimes we write "i" instead of "I". And the same thing happens with all the pronouns.
Finally I saw that me and some classmates have a really poor vocabulary. We always use the same verbs and the same expressions. I realized that when we try to use different words sometimes we dont know exactly how to use it and we have mistakes.

Well.. see you!

Teachers.TV

I watched a video of a school from london, which encourages its students to bicycling. It is great because they have some curses where the children learn about their body and how to be healthy. Also the school takes a big part on this because they include these courses in their curricular activity, the students learn about their respiration system and how to improve their power pedals. And also they can go every day bicycling to the school. I think this its a fabulous idea, because the children have to do exercices and it is really cool that the school helps them to have a sport which can be include in the daily life of the children. They are really happy with the idea and the 80% agree that its a positive way to do exercices and the 33 % feel better prepared, which means that the proyect was a success.
I think here in Chile we have a poor Physical Education in our school, and thats mean that we have a horrible health. The government is not worry about the health of the children. In the school they are all day eating junk food and they have like 2 or 3 hours per week to do exercices in the school. Thats not enough because a 10 years old´s children is growing up and he/she needs and adult who teach him/her how to have a healthy life.
In the future when we become teachers maybe we can´t help our students to do exercices but we can teach them how to eat in a healthy way and also we can talk with the parents when we will see a health problem.
I liked the video because I think that those kind of school we need in this country.
